Living a Life of Service
What is your life calling, your life mission? Have you thought much about it? Most people haven’t, and as a result, they have a really hard time articulating it. If you were to write your life mission, what would you say? Would it have anything to do with living a life of service?
Maybe you haven’t thought much about living a life of service, but you kind of like the idea of living a life that is not just wrapped up in yourself. Maybe you want to live a life focused on serving the Lord and others in His name, you just are’t sure what that might look like. Maybe your life mission revolves around the idea of service and you’re looking for some inspiration.
In Acts 13 and 14, we get a vivid picture for how to live a life of service. Paul and Barnabas find their life mission cemented in these chapters as they take their first missionary journey to reach and disciple new Believers. They spend well over a year on the road (and sea), traveling nearly 1500 miles and visiting multiple towns. Along the way, they face plenty of challenges including some haters who were doing all they could to poison people against their message of salvation in Christ. So they honed their focus to reach out to the “dissed” people of their time, the Gentiles. The Gentiles were disenfranchised, disassociated, disconnected people.
Paul quoted the prophet Isaiah when he told his listeners during his mission trip: 47 For this is what the Lord has commanded us: “‘I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.’” Acts 13:47. If you’re looking for a life mission, Paul reminds us of this one… Share the light of Christ with “dissed” people in your life. I’ll bet you know someone who is “dissed”… disillusioned, disheartened, distant, and disconnected. What better way to serve them than to get to know them, encourage them, share a word of hope and the life-changing message of salvation in Christ. At Watermark, we are committed to reaching and discipling “dissed” people!
