What love looks like

Who is Watermark Church? What are we all about? What are we trying to do? These are important questions that we are exploring during our current series Ignite - Hearts on Fire. This month, as we wrap up our three year “Ignite” pledge campaign, I recognize some of you may not have been here when we launched this campaign, but now you call Watermark home. We are so glad that you are here!

When Watermark Church held our first worship service in the cafeteria of Troutman Middle School in 2008, having a home of our own was only a dream. We had a long way to go and grow to be able to do that. But we did, with the Lord’s help. We bought and paid for our 22 acre parcel between 2011-13, then waited for the right time to build our home. After a move to Lakeshore School in 2014, we were ready to take a huge faith step in 2016 by launching a capital campaign that we hoped would get us in a strong enough position to borrow money and build our church home. Now, you know we were able to do that, but you may not know how the numbers worked out… It is a great story! I’ll share more about that this Sunday.

Watermark is far more than a building, though our building has really enhanced Watermark’s ministry! I am so thankful for our beautiful home. But even more than that, I am thankful for all who now call it home. During this series, we are celebrating who we are… a church with “hearts on fire”, burning with God’s presence! (Ezekiel 11:19-20) And with hearts burning with His presence, we will be loving, giving and trusting!

For Christ-Followers, love matters! (Matthew 22:37-39). Love is the distinguishing characteristic of Christ-followers - of Watermarkers! (John 13:34-35). Jesus wants us to be known by our love for God and for one another. Nothing matters more! Jesus commanded us to love like Him. A heart burning with His presence yields a loving heart. What does a loving heart look like? The Apostle Paul tells us in Romans 12:9-18 and Watermarkers strive to love God and others like that!
